2012’s Hottest Summer Trends
Fashion’s taken a colourful turn for 2012, with designers drenching their collections in more vibrant brights, punchy prints and sugary
sorbets than ever before. All of the latest trends are perfect for sunny summer. So get ready to work that tan and colour-up your wardrobe, with our guide to the pick of the hottest summer fashion trends.
Feminine Florals
Prints are back in a big way for 2012, and none more so than florals. Just about every fashion house debuted florals in their collections for this year, and it’s a look that’s perfect for spring.
Look out for pretty, floaty, flower print dresses and summery floral shorts – these cute floral shorts from New Look (pictured below) are right on trend and will have your wardrobe blooming in no time. If you don’t want to go for floral prints, you can work the trend into your look with accessories too, with rosebud earrings, 3D bloom brooches, and pretty petal necklaces.
Turn Up the Tribal
Designers found a whole new way to inject colour this season with the tribal trend. Looking to exotic destinations like Haiti and Mexico for inspiration, you’ll find high street and designer stores awash with tribal motifs, tribal stripes, symbols and traditional ethnic prints and fabrics. Go Aztec with stripes, accessorise with feathers, and look out for natural materials like wood, faux-ivory, leather and cork.
Back to the Future
A look that’s guaranteed to dazzle under the sun, the 2012 futurism trend was in full swing on the catwalks, particularly at Calvin Klein. Look out for angular shapes, transparent plastics, and lashings of high-sheen silver shorts and dresses. Silver’s a truly versatile shade, working with just about every colour, so it’s easy to work into your wardrobe, and as an added bonus, it really helps to enhance your tan too.
Power Prints
One way to instantly liven up your wardobe for summer is to inject some punchy prints. This year designers are going OTT with bold prints, combining them head to toe for an in your face look that’s as summery as it gets. Make it as colourful as you want, and don’t be afraid to clash mismatching prints for a look that’s really on trend. If you don’t want to go for day-glo shades, take a leaf out of Florence Welch’s book and keep it monochrome and head to toe.
